Borrowed Centuries

Borrowed Centuries is a series of staged portraits inspired by the visual language of European Old Master paintings.

Drawing on historical costume, classical composition, and painterly lighting, the photographs explore the relationship between photography and painting. Figures that seem to belong to another century are reimagined through a contemporary photographic lens.

Rather than reconstructing particular paintings or historical periods, the series borrows their atmosphere, gestures, and visual conventions to create portraits that exist somewhere between past and present.

The works reflect an ongoing interest in the theatrical nature of portraiture and the ways images shape our ideas of beauty, identity, and history.
